Rounton Coffee Roasters | Colombian Rich Roast 1kg | Strong Dark Roast Whole Coffee Beans | Roasted in Yorkshire | 100% Arabica | Speciality Coffee Bags | Columbian Coffee
- Coffee Beans 1kg - This Colombian Coffee is a strong but smooth, rich roast, developed longer in the roaster for the more traditional coffee drinker. This uncompromising Colombian coffee is best enjoyed when you need a strong deep hit of caffeine. With low acidity, and a rounded and smooth taste, we have toned down the bitterness, and created a darker coffee with a pleasant chocolatey finish.
- Smooth Colombian Coffee - All of our coffee beans are roasted in small batches in North Yorkshire - roasting to bring out the optimum flavour profile of each origin, and this espresso roast Colombian coffee gives the kick that you would expect from a dark richer roast.
- Ethically Sourced Coffee - as an independent and responsible business, here at Rounton Coffee, we can afford to be that little bit more selective when sourcing our coffee. We pay a premium for our coffees as we want to ensure a sustainable supply chain that rewards the farmers for the quality that they produce
- Espresso Coffee Beans - Whilst this is a darker roast, and is more suited to those espresso based drinks, some may still enjoy to drink this using some of the craft methods used at home such as the V60, Aeropress or the Cafetiere.
- 100& Arabica Coffee Beans - At Rounton Coffee, we only roast specialty grade Arabica Coffees as we are deeply invested in quality and taste! For freshly roasted coffee straight from our roastery, select the Merchant Fulfilled Option :-)
- Recyclable & Carbon Neutral Coffee Bags - We care for our environment and we want to have a positive impact on the world around us. That is why we make positive changes always! Our packs can now be put into your domestic recycling bins at home. All coffees are packed in a cardboard presentation box and we use resealable packs also to keep the coffee fresh for longer!!
- Great Taste Award Winning Coffee - 2021!!

Scorpion
Quite expensive, but not overly for artisan coffee. This blend is really balanced, works in espresso and / or lattes.

Note: I got these beans at 5 weeks post-roast date, which is, especially for medium, on the edge of stale. However, I proceeded to explore the best way to extract their most favourable flavours. Overall, bean quality looks relatively high, fairly mediocre when we get into specialty coffee, with around 60% uniformity. I tried EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING in order to extract these to their full potential, from traditional 9 bar shots, blooming shots, slayer shots, and everything in between, using doses ranging from 18g all the way to 22.5g. Two best shots I've had are a blooming shot at 22.5g, 15 second pre-infuse, slowly ramping up to 3 bars, 30 second bloom, 10 second extraction at 6 bars for ~45g out. This offered the most body, but lacked clarity, and was biased to the more bitter chocolate end of the flavours. The second, which I found the best shot was a 10 second pre-infuse, slow ramp up to 1 bar, 7 bar shot with 18g and 38g out within 27-30 seconds. This offered a slightly lower body, but much higher clarity and balance. I found that anywhere under a 1:1.8 ratio offered a very under extracted dry-mouthing experience, and anything over 1:2.2 ratio offered a watery, biased towards bitter flavour, irrespective of dosages and parameters. Tasting notes: Praline, hazelnut, milk chocolate, stone fruits - apricot and plum, and orange zest, with lasting praline and zest notes. Very balanced coffee with a saline essence. I believe my exploration for the best cup would've been shorter lived if the beans were no more than 2 weeks post-roast date, and that's where the star gets deducted. You can't state a bean lasts up to 6 months at standard storage, maybe in the freezer immediately off roast, but nothing else. Overall, fairly good quality and price for what you get, as long as roast date is no greater than 4 weeks IMO.

I came up with this poem whilst drinking a cup of this. Roses are red, This coffee is not, But it is delicious, Drink it while it's hot. Smells and tastes fantastic, I get a good extraction on my machine with a fairly coarse grind. And it inspires poetic genius as you can see, highly recommend.

I guess I should have paid a little more attention to the description. Sometimes when you find speciality roasters describing their beans as a dark roast, it's often only medium roast by the standards of an Italian coffee shop. The descriptions of cherry flavours typcial of medium roasted Columbian beans enticed me in. Well, I'm not getting any cherry flavour at all. It's all overpowered by strong dark-roasted flavours. That's fine and I can't fault the coffee because that's how it was described, but know that that's what you'll be getting. Something very similar to a typical Italian mainstream flavour profile like Lavazza or Illy, but just a little fresher. Knowing I can get more interesting Columbian coffees for a very similar price, this one wasn't special enough to me to want to buy it again, but if you're after a daily driver straight-down-the-line dark espresso, it might work for you.

I was looking forward to enjoying these coffee beans, as I usually appreciate their quality. However, I was disappointed to find that the roast date was in September, yet the beans arrived on November 26th. The flavour of your coffee beans is great, that's why I keep subscribing to it. However, I would like the beans to be freshly produced within a month so that I can better appreciate your beans and also to ensure that I can drink them in the time when they have the best flavour. Hopefully, the freshness won't hurt your excellent work in the future, thank you!
