I was happy to try Rounton Coffee, a brand that was new to me. The 1kg bag of their dark roast coffee beans turned out to be a delightful discovery. As someone who prefers a coffee without the bitterness, I found this blend to be just perfect. I also tried it with a small bit of cream and it was nice too. I would highly recommend.

This is a review of "Rounton Coffee Roasters | Proper Tasty Coffee | Dark Roast Coffee Beans 1kg | All Day Drinking Coffee | Fresh Espresso Coffee Beans 1kg | 100% Arabica Coffee | 1kg Bags" I love fresh coffee from my bean-to-cup machine and normally get my supplies via a subscription service to a well-known London-based brand. This is about to change... Really really impressed by these beans from Roundtons! I prefer a robust dark roast and these are just lovely, bursting full of flavour. I love how the roasting date is shown on the bag - in my case they were roasted on 14/11/24 and I received them on 29th November - that's not a bad turnaround. I have so far used them to make both espresso and flat whites - and I love the chocolatey flavour. If the price remains the same (currently 20 quid for 1kg) I will definitely be ordering more once this bag runs low. This Rounton coffee is good. I'd suggest these are more of a medium-dark than a full on dark roast and the beans are dry in appearance and don't feature the oiliness that beans can sometimes have. Opening the bag and the smell from the beans is amazing. I also like that the bag actually states that the beans are 100% Arabica as I know that some brands don't state the percentages of a specific bean variety. Using my bean to cup machine, the resulting taste is good but I was hoping for a bit more from it. It's very pleasant at the time, but there isn't anything memorable. It's good in a flat white or Americano and there is a decent level of crema generated but I wouldn't call it a complex flavour profile. Overall, this is a good everyday bean for a variety of coffee drinks, with a safe, taste profile that should appeal to a wide range.

nice coffee, the bag feels like a good quality bag with a propper seal on it to keep the beans away from the air. I seal mine in the bag and then put them in the freezer, getting out my dose weight each time i want a coffee. It did take a few shots to get this coffee dialled in as it was very fresh when received, but now dialled it is staying really consistent over time, helped by keeping the beans in the freezer. The taste is good, not specialty coffee good, but as a nice shot of espresso, an americano or a base to a milk drink it is great and i have enjoyed a few shots every day for the last week, i do pull the odd bad shot, but with the price of the beans that isn't too upsetting as i happily make another.

I would really like to go back in time and have my very first cup of this coffee all over again. The taste is sensational, but that first taste can’t be matched. The aroma of the beans is heavenly… Then you grind them and it gets even better… Then you set your machine going and realise you have made a pot of joy! The flavour is very well-rounded no matter what strength you make it, and I think it’s the best coffee I’ve had so far.

I personally would described the roast as more on the medium side of dark. There is a roast date included (nice to see) and the beans were roasted within the last few weeks. Onto the important bit… Brewed as an Espresso it has a lovely rich crema, medium body and acidity, with the main flavours to me being black treacle and nuts. It’s very good indeed. The flavours are bold enough to cut through Oat Milk and made as a cappuccino the tasting note flavours of chocolate and pecan come through nicely. I’m a fussy coffee drinker but it was easy to award the full 5 stars for these beans.
